How to prepare for unplanned events

Why does this need to be done?  Every student will experience personal problems that interfere with online learning at some point in their learning path.  Anticipating these events can be the difference between finishing and falling behind.

Answer

Stay in communication with your Instructor: it is good to engage in conversation with the instructor even when problems have not happened, but when they do happen, communicate with your Instructor as soon as possible about the nature of your issue.

Ask for help: Reach out to a class mentor for guidance during rough patches before you fall behind.

Arrange a cushion: Always plan your time to allow extra each week so that you can finish work by the due date.  If an emergency does happen, you know you are more prepared to handle it.

Manage your time well: Do not leave your course work for the last minute, use planning and time management skills so that you do not waste time that could go towards classes.  Use a Calendar and the other Blackboard tools provided by your instructor to organize and prioritize your time wisely.
